Saga Connections #3: Rediscovering Kinmount: Part 2 of the Icelandic Settlement Story
March 3, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Our third Saga Connections event will be Part 2 of the Kinmount story: Rediscovering Kinmount. This will follow up the Part 1 discussion we had on December 3, 2020 where Don Gislason, Gail Einarson-McCleery and historian Guy Scott told the story of the original Icelandic immigrants who arrived in Kinmount in 1874. Part 2 will tell the story of the Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto and its rediscovery of Kinmount some 125 years later. The rediscovery story involves arduously unearthing the details of the story of the settlers through diligent research, the creation of the beautiful stone sculpture In the Presence of a Soul carved by sculptor Gudrun Sigursteinsdóttir Girgis, the dedication of the memorial and the many years of hosting touring Icelanders at the site by key members of our club.
