An Afternoon With the Grýla and the Jólasveinar (Icelandic Yule Lads)!
December 1 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Help celebrate the start of the Christmas season this year with your Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto. This year we are taking a page from the past and revisiting an well loved event format we ran for many years about a decade ago. We will be joining Grýla and the Jólasveinar for an afternoon of storytelling at Riverdale Farm. This is an outdoor event and starts promptly at 2pm. We will walk with Grýla around the farm as she tells the beloved story of her mischievous sons the Jólasveinar, or the 13 mountain-dwelling Yule Lads that frequent the homes of Icelanders in the 13 days leading up to Christmas.
This is a fun event for children and adults and Icelandophiles of all ages. Our Grýla (as brought to life by our very own Brenda Bjarnason for many years at the ICCT) tells a captivating and magical story of the Yule Lads seamlessly integrating the story into the many interesting nooks and crannies of the Riverdale Farm.
Join us at Riverdale Farm at 2pm Sunday December 1st. dressed for the weather of the day (you will be outside for about two hours). In addition to Grýla, the farm animals and the magical tale of the Jólasveinar, we might even get a visit from another important Chrismas icon, Santa!.
There is plenty of free parking on the streets around the Farm, but we suggest that you leave time to find parking and be at the Farm entrance about 15 minutes before 2pm, so that we can get started promptly. We suggest that if you get there a bit early, feel free to explore through Simpson House (number 1 on the map) near the corner of Sumach and Winchester Street. The washrooms are on the east side of Simpson House and its recommend that to use them before we start the adventure with Grýla.
Please note that no dogs are allowed at Riverdale Farm. Also, the Farm is about a 20 min walk (or catch the 26 Bus) from the Castle Frank subway station, or can be reached by taking the 506 Bus (from College Station) and walking in from the corner of Carlton St. and Parliament St.
This event is free to attend, but donations to the Club are always appreciated!
