Nordic Nights Movie Series: Children of Nature
November 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
CHILDREN OF NATURE
(Börn Náttúrunnar)
The only Icelandic film ever nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, Friðrik Þór Friðriksson’s moving breakthrough feature is a poignant, elegiac, and lightly magicrealist portrait of what (and who) was lost in Iceland’s drive towards modernization. The film opens as the aged Þorgeir (Gísli Halldórsson) bids a silent farewell to the farm he has devoted his life to as he prepares to move in with his grown daughter in Reykjavík. Receiving a decidedly chill reception from his family, he is promptly whisked off to a retirement home, where he is unexpectedly reunited with an old flame, Stella (Sigríður Hagalín). The two soon hatch a plan to escape.
Films screen at the School of Image Arts, Ryerson University, Room 307, 122 Bond St. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Doors open @ 6pm, films start @ 6.30 pm, along with two films from the recent Ryerson Student Film Workshop in Finland.
