Join the ICCT in the 2022 Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade!
March 20, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
ICCT has been invited to participate in the 2022 Toronto St. Patrick’s Parade on Sunday, March 20, starting at Noon.
Brendan Fyfe one of the organizers of the parade is also a fan of all things Icelandic and has attended our Þorrablót on the invitation of our ICCT member, singer and song-writer Lindy Vopnfjörð. Lindy reciprocated in marching in the St. Patrick’s Parade and Brendan was inspired to invite our club to be a regular in the parade.
The mission statement of the parade is “to celebrate Ireland’s history, culture and heritage” and certainly the Vikings were part of Irish history. Genetic studies in Iceland reveal that about 62% of the females have Irish/British Isles DNA. Maybe the Irish women came reluctantly to Ireland in the past but in this parade it’s all in fun as ICCT members are invited to assemble before the Viking ship float in the parade.
We will meet at 11 am near St. George and Bloor St. West where the parade begins. We will be marching behind the Viking Ship float so will be easy to find. Look for Robert Cuthbert who will be the chieftain of the ICCT Viking contingent (and maybe his lovely Irish wife, Shannon will be there but definitely only as a willing participant!) It’s going to be a chance to join Toronto’s Irish community in celebration of a long and rich heritage that is truly multicultural in the way Canada celebrates.
If you have any Viking gear around do come outfitted or dress in an Icelandic sweater. We are collecting gear to share so check in with us and do let us know you are coming by registering at https://www.icct.info/event/2022stpattys
