Joan Albert’s Watercolour Landscapes Art Show

September 18, 2011 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Joan Albert is having an art show and sale featuring her watercolour landscapes.

They are original designs that have been taken from her own sketches and photographs, many from her vacations. Water, shoreline and rocks are common themes, moving artists to call her paintings “very peaceful.”

Joan is of Icelandic descent and spent her early years in Arborg, Manitoba. Her afi, Marteinn Jonasson, was the Arborg postmaster for many years and her mother, Florence Broadley, became the postmistress later on.

Joan’s artwork began with quilting and then quickly moved into self-design of contemporary quilts and wall hangings. She was one of the first Canadians to attend design workshops at Cazenovia College in New York State. Her prairie upbringing was responsible for creating her three Prairie Quilts that depict winter, brilliant sunsets and prairie wind. Joan has exhibited, has won awards in shows and has been published in Canadian publications for her work.

Joan painted as a teenager but didn’t pursue it until later when arthritis in her hands made quilting difficult. She has taken workshops at the Oakville Arts Society, Burlington Arts Centre and with Doug Mays, Joyce Reynolds and Ed Shawcross.

Joan is a member of the INL of NA through the Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto and resides in Burlington, Ontario with her husband George Albert. Her work can be found in collections across Canada, the US, Caribbean and Europe. This show on September 18 will mark her second solo exhibition.
