Independence Day Picnic in Dufferin Park
June 17, 2011 @ 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Celebrate our Icelandic independence on Friday, June 17 in Dufferin Grove Park – just steps from Dufferin Subway Station. We will be meeting across from Dufferin Mall, north end by the campfire.
Please bring your own food and drink. There are BBQs available but we cannot guarantee their availability, so we would recommend bringing your own portable BBQ if you have one.
Miri and Lindy will be joining us to perform some songs for us. Bring some extra cash so you can buy their albums. There will also be some children’s activities.

Official name Icelandic: Þjóðhátíðardagurinn
Date 17 June
Icelandic National Day (Icelandic: Þjóðhátíðardagurinn, the day of the nation’s celebration), 17 June, is a holiday in Iceland and celebrates the day in 1944 that The Republic of Iceland (Lýðveldið Ísland) was formed. The date of 17 June was chosen because it is the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, a major figure of Icelandic culture and the leader of the 19th century Icelandic independence movement.
