The Heart of the Music — A conversation with Kathleen Kajioka
Saga Connections is pleased to be hosting A Conversation with Musician and Broadcaster Kathleen Kajioka “The Heart of the Music” on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 7:30 pm EST on Zoom. Please register on the ICCT website for this free event.
We are pleased to have acclaimed performance artist and radio broadcaster Kathleen Kajioka join us on Saga Connections in April. Kathleen’s mother Sigrún Torfadóttir emigrated from Iceland, married the young doctor Robert Kajioka and stayed to raise their family in Toronto.
Kathleen’s connection to her Icelandic roots has remained strong over the years and she has been concertmaster of the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra and guest conductor of the Skálholt Bach Consort. The Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið has claimed her as their ‘West Icelandic baroque violinist’ but many of you will know her as a familiar voice as host of “A Little Night Music” and Saturday night “Dinner Classics” as well as “Sunday Night at the TSO.”
Kathleen is a woman of many talents, with a long career as a performing artist, playing the viola as well as the violin throughout Canada, U.S and Europe. She regularly performs with Tafelmusik, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Maza Meze, the Canadian Opera Company, Opera Atelier, Toronto Masque Theatre, and Arion Baroque, as well as with Pacific Baroque and Capriccio Stravagante.
She is part of the Early Music Chamber group, Ensemble Masques whose recent recordings, J.H. Schmelzer – Sacro-Profanus, and Romanus Weichlein, received wide critical acclaim, including Gramophone Magazine’s “Editor’s Choice” and the Diapason d’Or. But imparting her love and knowledge of music as a teacher of Historical Performance at Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould school and in speaking and engaging with local group, is a special gift Kathleen has extended to Toronto communities.
She will speak to us about “The Heart of the Music”. Register to join us for Wednesday April 13 online 7:30 pm at www.icct.info/saga.
